On 7/7/07 the world’s first truly global concert will be held, with one mega-event on every continent. That’s 7 continents, 9 concerts, and 24 hours of music from 150 bands!

The event comes out of collaboration between Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore as the Chair of the Alliance for Climate Protection and Kevin Wall, the producer of the Live 8 concert that targeted poverty in 2005. Concerts for Live Earth in Giants and Wembley Stadiums, in Shanghai, Tokyo, Istanbul, Hamburg, Johannesburg, Sydney, Rio, and even Antarctica will try to out-audience Wall’s first event, which reached an estimated 3 billion people.

A cornucopian line-up includes the Red Hot Chili Peppers (who reportedly signed onto the event with Al Gore while onstage at the Academy Awards), the Black Eyed Peas, Madonna, The Police, KT Tunstall, Genesis, Metallica, and Ludacris among very many others. All the events are designed to attract attention to global warming, its real and immediate consequences, and the sorts of lifestyle changes viewers, attendees, and participants can enact in a global effort to solve the climate crisis.

To that end, the concerts will be among the greenest ever conducted on this scale, with consultants working at each of the venues to engineer recycling efforts, increase energy efficiency, produce power on-site, and altogether minimize the event’s environmental impact.
