Joe Strummer, the former frontman of The Clash who passed away in 2002, was the first artist to release a carbon-neutral record and a co-founder of the organization formerly known as Future Forests. The organization aimed to take action against climate change by planting trees around the world to offset carbon released into the atmosphere.
The organization has now been renamed as The Carbon Neutral Company, and works with a wide range of top musicians wishing to release carbon-neutral albums. Previous customers have included Foo Fighters and Pink Floyd, and individuals are encouraged to do their part by purchasing trees to be planted in forests sponsored by these artists.
